Jin Shin Jyutsu: The Art of Harmonizing Life Energy
Sometimes the body simply needs permission to rest.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese art of harmonizing the body's life energy through gentle, intentional touch. It supports the body's innate wisdom and capacity to return to harmony.
Many people leave a session feeling deeply rested, more centered, and better able to meet life with a calm ease.
Rooted in the same Five Element philosophy as Taiji and Qigong, Jin Shin Jyutsu is a natural companion to movement practice. While the Internal Arts cultivate harmony through intentional movement, Jin Shin Jyutsu invites us to experience harmony through stillness, touch, and deep listening.
I had the privilege of studying directly with Mary Burmeister, who brought Jin Shin Jyutsu from Japan to the United States after learning from Master Jiro Murai. The principles she shared continue to shape my own practice and are woven into the WaterWays Method™.
Today, Jin Shin Jyutsu is offered in two ways:
- Hands-on sessions, where you simply rest while gentle touch supports the body’s natural process of harmonizing
- Self-help, a lifelong practice of simple holds you can learn to support your own wellbeing wherever you are.
Within the WaterWays Method, this is the Receive Path - one of the three pathways for returning to harmony.
